USB has a high burst but then drops back in speed lower than Firewire... 
That's why FW is still the best option for streaming data.

Using a Sawtooth G4, with a USB 2 card, we are not able to capture 
video to an external USB 2 hard drive with FCP from an XM-1 or a GL-1 
Canon camcorder without freezes and or dropped frames.
USB 2.0 is rated at 480 Mbps, and FireWire 1394a - 400 Mbps, but as 
Shirley said: Just be aware that not all 2.0 USB devices are high speed.
