[MacDV] mini DV Cameras

I have a Sony TRV27 and have been reasonably happy with it except for 
low light video. I am not talking dark just low to moderate room light. 
Under these conditions everything is very washed out and low contrast. 
I have been noticing other peoples cameras have been doing better than 
mine in the same light. Have consumer mini DV cameras gotten that much 
better in the last two years?
