Software Base Station

I just tried the software base station feature of OS 10.2 using my Ti 
500 and my G-4 450 tower.

Very cool....  easy to set up and it works well for short ranges.  It 
only seems to carry the signal 30' - 40', basically the rooms 
surrounding the G-4 tower, but much past that the signal fades out. 
I realize that the Airport card isn't nearly as strong as a base 
station, but I was wondering.....

Has anyone else used this?  Is that about the maximum range for the 
set up?  Any tricks to increase the range?
