"not terribly clever"??? No kidding, it's stupid is what it is. There 
should be a default to leave all the 'times' alone, pre-set for the 
user's 'home' time zone, which is easier to figure. Or a modifier 
like CT, ET, PT, whatever, that is a constant.

It's currently a software 'feature' that is a perfect illustration of 
the old concept "Too smart by half".
