Dead firewire [OT]

I am the proud (?) owner of a dead QUE! firewire CD-RW. Except the IDE
burner inside the case is fine. It is the firewire/ide bridge that has bit
the dust. It is an INITIO bridge (I think). It has an Initio VLSI chip and
the bar code sticker on the back says INT215 s/n 2150020 36981.

My question is this: can I replace the bridge? That is, is it possible to
buy a replacement bridge that will fit in the case and resurrect my burner?
