You may have a bad firewire port. Known issue with early Titaniums. There are plenty of threads on this in the archives. Test with another FW device. Once the port is gone you're only option is to get a FW PC Card or replace the motherboard (if yet to hear of someone successfully replacing the FW port/controller on the motherboard).
