OT Durability of DVDs

Apologies for this off-topic subject but I am sure it is of interest to
others.

Concerning the durability of DVDs as a storage medium, I always thought
of DVDs as the ideal storage medium because they were durable and their
contents did not fade or deteriorate very much.

Now someone tells me that there may be a lawsuit going on somewhere in
Europe for precisely opposite factor. Can anyone either confirm, deny
or advise on this? I was of the opinion that videocassettes fade with
time while DVDs are much, much longer-lived.

Thanks!

Murray
