hmmm... well it is possible that the brick has also failed. And at a 
pricey $85 a pop, one would think they would be a bit more robust. 
Do you know someone close who has a power cord you could try?  I took 
mine to the Apple Store and they verified that indeed the power brick 
was dead.  Come to think of it, the symptoms were similar.
