[Ti] Airport card turned on slows things down.

This sounds like your network settings are not right. Either your 
Airport TCP/IP settings are set to something funky, or your basestation 
has funky settings, or there is problem with the network connecting. 
You would get a similar problem if you had a machine connected via 
ethernet and it had incorrect network settings also.
