[Ti] Is my CD-ROM drive broken?

My backup Tibook (400) will read disks that I have burned in my 800 
Tibook, however it spits out blank disks - i.e. it won't accept blank 
disks (the same kind as the burned disks). Is there anything I can do 
to remedy this, or does it mean that the CD-ROM drive is shot. Is 
this an expensive repair (my Apple Care is finished).
