Don't go messing with that. Instead, start a terminal session and enter:

    sudo nvram boot-args="-v"

(Enter your admin password when prompted.)

It sets a parameter in the nonvolatile RAM. That'll do it for you.

I think   sudo nvram boot-args=    will turn it back off
