Can iLife apps 'burn' to NEC ND2500a in a Oxford911 ieee-1394 eclosure??

Hello All,

I have Three Apple Macintosh OS X.2.8 computers...

I want to buy an external cd/dvd burner

eg:  Will the iApps burn cd's and or DVD's to this device...

will i be able to use the above item with the iApps?

or is it a waste of money to buy iLife '04 unless i have an APPLE built  
in Superdrive?
