Questions on DVD formats

Hello, all:

I was wondering: would my Superdrive-equipped (Matshita UJ-816) Al PB 
G4 would play Region 2 DVDs in PAL format, if the DVD drive is first 
set to Region 0 (all regions)? My guess is that if it can, that DVD 
Player might not work, but that VLC or some other player might. Does 
anyone have any specific experience?
