Well, if Port 5190 was blocked, it cannot work, that is the only AOL 
Messenger port that allows logging in to the AOL servers.

I just ran a test, using Little Snitch. Blocked TCP over Port 5190, 
and when I went back in to connect through iChat I got "The 
connection was refused by the server"

I'd double-check my port blocking if it was me.
