Using G4 Desktop as a server to my Powerbook

I travel a lot and want to use my AlPB as my main computer. I have tons 
of stuff though on an old G4 desktop. Can you all suggest ways in which 
my G4 can be a server to my PB?

I use airport connections to the internet. Can you use ethernet for 
file transfer and airport for internet connection? Can I use my G4 
(with multiple IDE internal drives) in Target mode? Other ways?
