Noises tend to indicate bad things in the hardware, but I would 
certainly try all the standard cache cleaning (MacJanitor) and Repair 
Disk Permissions before I would send it in for repair. In addition, 
create a new user and see if problems still occur... that would 
identify some software issues. Also, do you have the hardware test CD?
