In the keynote, he makes the case based on _future_ developments.

After watching the keynote presentation, I'm not worried at all. I'm  
pretty sure I'll be buying at least one more G5 before the transition  
is complete.

OS X has been running on Intel for as long as it's been running on  
PPC so what?

It's a business/engineering decision.

Why all this gnashing of teeth and hand wringing emotion from so many?

It's just a chip FFS!
