Skip, before reinstalling the OS, I would try routine maintenance, just 
in case.  At least rebuild the desktop, or check things out with Disk 
Warrior.

Then, if the problem persists, I would try doing a Google search on the 
exact error message you are getting.  Someone, somewhere has probably 
seen this and written about it.

Another avenue to explore is to reinstall the Epson software that came 
with the printer, and reconfigure from the instruction booklet.
