[X-SW] Double Characters

Has anyone had a situation where, when they type in Text Edit, Word, 
iChat, Mail and just about any other word processing program, the first 
letter of the first word of every paragraph, all punctuation and the 
space between words is doubled up? Running X.3.8 currently, (also had 
the problem with X.3.7), have repaired permissions, run Cocktail and 
done just about anything else I can think of. All thoughts appreciated!
