It should be the same thing on the iMac. Try and remove the RAM you installed as you said. That should clear it up. IF it still gives you 3 beeps it is possible that the other memory stick that came originally with the iMac is bad (though I have never had a bad RAM from apple yet). But try and remove that extra RAM first. I have heard that OWC will replace bad ram but not sure for how long. RAM is pretty cheap and I would hope they would prefer to change yours than lose a customer.
