I actually found instructions on the iPod discussion board (over at the Apple site) on how to disassemble and reset the board. Involves using a thin knife (much easier and faster than I imagined), disconnecting the battery from the board, plugging the iPod in to the Mac, running iPod software, letting it reset, unplugging it again for a few minutes, then connecting the battery and plugging in the reassembled unit. I'm back to 9+ hours. I was out of warranty anyway...and the $296 charge for a new battery means I may as well go out and spend $3 more for a new one... :) I have no idea if this fix will be a long term fix. There are rumors on the 'net about an iPod updater v1.2.4 that is supposed to allow you to do this kind of reset and should take care of the problem. You know, I was nervous thinking about doing it...I definitely WOULD NOT have done it if the warranty was still good (seems that my purchase date of 02/21/02 meant my warranty is effective up to 02/20/03...I missed the cutoff by one day). :) Don (happy as a pig in s**t now) > > The problem is the battery in the iPod isn't user-replaceable and >> Apple charges $296 to replace the battery. >> >> I wonder if this means the iPod is so high-maintenance that it needs >> $296 worth of repair every year? >> >> :) >> >Don > >maybe you can replace it, if it is out of warranty - but i haven't been >able to locate the battery. >http://www.home.no/deep/ipod/disassembly/ > >here is the battery model number >Sony model# LIS1225APP (TW) > >frank
