I am not sure what you mean by "Safari Browser bar" but wonder if you 
are launching Safari or are you launching Netscape?

Your email address indicates you are using AOL. I have not used there 
service with OSX but it used to be that they provided their own 'in 
house' email program. I am not sure you can use Apple's Mail program.

Netscape was AOL's built in browser so the same may go for the way AOL 
defaults to it. Maybe some else on the list has recent experience with 
AOL. If not I may set up an account to find  out how it all works.
