Moving the Mail folder onto another partition ?

Does anyone know of a way to move the Mail folder out of the 
Users/Library folder and have Mail store its files on another partition 
?

I tried using an alias but that does not work. It works with the 
Documents folder though.

If I could get Apple Mail to use another partition, that would free up 
over two Gigs on my Mac OS X partition...
