Itunes loosing sound when playing MP3's and audio cds.

I have come to the point of frustration.

When I play MP3s that I have downloaded the progress bar in Itunes keeps
moving but sometime the music seems to stop playing.

I get this same problem when listening to cds.

The only thing I know of for sure is that you can never get it to stop
playing the sound in the same place in the song.  Sometimes it won't happen
in the song when you play it again.

Anyone have any idea why I am having this problem?
