Mail attachment issue

This has always bothered me, but every once in a while, particularly 
with AOL recipients, my attachments do not go through properly using 
Apple's Mail (both beta and 1.0). These are PC users I believe.

My workaround is to use Entourage X and set the encoding for Windows. 
Then they receive it no problem.

Is there any such selection to change encoding of attachments in Mail, 
or do I have to keep Entourage on my drive for just such cases?
