moving applications to other partitions

I'm running OS 10.2.6 on my 500 mHZ iMac, off of a ~ 80 Gb FireWire 
drive which I had partitioned into 3 drives (6, 6, 68). One of the 
smaller ones is all filled up, with OS X, and associated applications. 
I got an iPod last week, so I've been filling up iTunes, and now this 
partition is running out of space.
Can I just open-apple drag the iTunes and Mail (4K of messages) icons 
to the big partition? Or would that cause problems?
