[X Newbies] Disk first aid button grayed out

This might be to obvious, still it's worth to check:
Are you sure you didn't select the "volume" of your hard disk (listed
slightly intended in "disk & volumes"?

"Repair Disk" and "Verify Disk" will only become available if you select the
hard drive itself (it's name always starts with the size, like "55,89 GB
HITACHI" followed by something like the manufacturer name and is NOT
intended in the list). Just guessing...
