Of course it does. Try looking in the help system for info on how to 
use Services.

Services does all kinds of useful things. I use it for things like:

*Instantly putting a screen shot into an email
*Reading my email aloud to me
*Summarising long reports
*Instantly "throwing" highlighted text into TextEdit w/o copy & paste
*Turning highlighted text into a "Sticky Note"
*Opening URLs in browsers other than my default one
*Instant definitions (Omnidictionary)

And there are many other uses.
