RAM need for X

Hi,

My G4 tower came with 256MB and I gave it another 128MB at the
shop. It came with OSX. It seemed to run fine (I think - it did have
some kernel panics which Apple said were prolly the fault of bad
RAM). I recently added Jaguar and another 512MB of RAM and
things run really well.

I'd like to put Jaguar on my laptop eventually. It started out with
64mg, I added 64 at the shop initially for a total of 128mb. Recently
got another 256mg which they told me maxed it out for a total of
320MB. (OWC seems to be selling 512 chip for this machine though.)

So ... to make a short story long, why won't the laptop run Jaguar
just fine on 320MB RAM? Because it's a G3 compared to the Tower
which is a G4?

Maybe the kernel panics on the Tower were caused by insufficient
RAM to run X in the first place? Hmmmm. It's running beautifully
now, no problems except in my head. Tower was running some
flavor of X.1.
