[X Newbies] Spinning Beach Ball of Death

I've had the same problem. My internet connection is via airport. If 
I'm patient and turn my airport card off and on again, the problem 
vanishes. I've noticed when it happens that my airport status icon 
grays out. So I think it has to do with a connection that's gone south 
while Mail.app is trying to download mail.
