Jaguar vs. Panther

I'm looking into setting up my wife's iBook (300 MHz) with OS X. I'm trying
to decide between Jaguar & Panther. Price is definitely an issue, so I'm
leaning toward Jaguar, but is there a comparison or list of all the new
features in Panther?

Also, will the latest version of Mail work in Jaguar? She really wants the
"Threads" feature.
