Mail App

Hello fellow listies,
This is my 1st. post on this list, I have a problem, when I open mail 
the little spinning wheel keeps going,(also the beach ball) locks 
everything up and I have to force quit. Tried to trash pref. but this 
was no help. Has anyone experienced this? Apple support and discussion 
were no help.

Ibook 366SE-360mb-10gig, 10.3
BTW it usually runs quite well on 10, I also run 10.3 on a clamshell 
SE-466-576mb and it's faster then my dual usb 500-Ibook with320mb
