Internet connect problem

Internet Connect will not "remember" that my external modem is on the 
modem port. Everytime I shut my G3 down, Internet Connect reverts to 
the printer port, despite the fact that I've clicked on the lock. 
Annoying if not a grave problem.

Any ideas?
