If it's new and there isn't anything of worth on there I'd wipe the entire drive and do a fresh install of everytthing. If it doesn't work after the fresh installation, it's probably a hardware issue. Others may know an answer to help you without the reinstallation, but as a general, personal rule, I always format the drives of any computers that have been used by others and start anew - a little bit of extra workto begin with, but very well worth it in the long run...IMHO.
