Actually, it depends.  Fast Ethernet is 100 Mbps.  Firewire 400 is
400 Mbps (of course).  Firewire 800 is 800 Mbps, but is only available
on the newest Macs.  But Gigabit Ethernet (if available) is 1000 Mbps,
which is faster than anything Firewire.
