[X-Newbies] Wireless Network Protocols

Hi all,

The uni in its wisdom has decided to run trials of wireless access. 
Initially this is Windows only - no surprise there, given that the Uni
sold its soul to M$ - but they 'hope' to extend it to Mac users in due course.

However one of the things they suggest is the following:

"To ensure that you can take full advantage of advanced security measures
that will be deployed in the future, we would recommend that you use
wireless clients that are compatible with Cisco's Structured Wireless
Aware Network (SWAN) protocols"

Does anyone know what these protocols are and if the Airport cards comply
with them?
