[X-Newbies] Upgrading Quicktime

I have a G4 400MHz, running OSX 10.2.8. I'm trying to install VLC
(Video Lan Client) but it won't start up. From looking around the
support forums for VLC, it looks like it needs to have Quicktime 6.5
installed, in order to work in OS 10.2.8. My system currently has
QuickTime Player 6.2

I've tried to get QT 6.5 and install it, but it keeps asking for
registration info, and seems to be nudging me towards purchasing the
product.

It seems to me that I just need the QT player? Is there a QT 6.5
player that I can download and use, for free? I've tried the auto
update feature from within my QT 6.2 but it does absolutely nothing.
