OK I think I've discovered the fix. Safari likes to hold on to any icons it has. I dumped the cache of icons from the Library>Safari folder. So then it reverted to and stored the regular blue globes. Just now, I simply went in and then dumped the cache once again and voila, the special icons are showing up when I visit each page. I guess Safari doesn't like to give up the icons when new ones are encountered. I cannot find a setting that asks to refresh the page on EACH VISIT like other browsers have. Or am I missing that? I could care less about seeing favicons but since I design pages, they have to show up for me so I at least know they are working for others.
