[X-Newbies] Thank you all

Not only do I live in my own little world here in rural France, but 
there is clearly a generation gap. What is obvious to all you young 
folk is often a mystery to this retired fellow! Thank you to everybody 
who posted a whole range of solutions to my small problem. I found the 
whole thing fascinating.

What I had failed to understand was that it was not the computer that 
wouldn't do what I wanted, but Safari! It is not very often that I want 
to save in this way (which is why I had waited several months before 
posing the question). In future I shall revert to Internet Explorer - 
I've done it this morning; it still works!

And for Robert Ameeti -  sorry, I had no idea that I was being 
impolite. I naively thought that "please and "thank you" did the trick. 
But it seems as though you have a new set of ideas nowadays!

...... missing something on my OS 10.3.3?

I read an article on a website page and decide that I want to save it 
to my desktop for later use.

So.... I click on Save As.
The text saves perfectly, but not the photos. All I get is a series of 
question marks.
I presume there is something basic that I don't understand.

Many thanks for any advice.
