[X-Newbies] Finder and Empty Trash problem

Hi all,

Since upgrading to Tiger 10.4.3 (from 10.3.9 with archive and install),
the following happens:-

Move something to the Trash,
Go to the Finder drop down menu and the whole menu is greyed out.

Click anywhere on the desktop, go back to the menu and it is is back to
normal and I can empty the trash.  I'm sure it didn't do this when I was
running 10.3.9

Any ideas anyone?  I've done repair permissions and run DiskWarrior from
another partition but no difference.
