I feel fairly sure that I put up a post talking about this rather  
extensively on this list not too long ago (or perhaps it was on  
another Mac list), but here's the highly condensed version:

For simplicity, I'd suggest one of two options:

1. Blogger.com. There is nothing simpler. Pick a template, fill in a  
few blanks, write an entry, click "publish." Blogspot provides free  
webspace. It's not fancy, but it's highly functional with nothing to  
learn. http://www.blogger.com.

2. Blog.Mac, on Macupdate (and probably versiontracker). It's said to  
work seamlessly with .Mac, though it is not an Apple product. It's  
$30 shareware.
