I run my blog:
http://thechasbah.blogspot.com (warning: political content -- if you
can't stand the heat ...)

Using a nifty little shareware called BlogApp from Objective Labs.
It's been ages since it was updated, but it currently works in Tiger.
Blogspot hosts the blog for free, and I recommend this system as a
good way to get your feet wet.

More advanced users or people who desire more control over the look
and functionality of their blogs should probably dive into Moveable
Type. I also recently saw something on Macupdate for people with .Mac
accounts, a tool that made it easy to put a blog up on your .Mac web
space.

As for geneology, there's really only one choice: Reunion 8. There
are a couple of also-rans, notably Mac Family Tree, demos of which
are all available from MacUpdate.com (just search on geneology).
