[X-Newbies] iMovie 6.0.1 problems

I have tried to import  a video into iMovie 6.0.1 using a Sony DCR-HC32E
Mini DV Camera. I am connecting via FireWire.
I find that when I try to import the blue screen comes up with the Camera
Connected message and the camera is able to be controlled using the iMovies
play, Stop FF Rew pause and importer controls.

No vidio appears on the screen and no clips appear either.
I am using an iMac G4 800mhz with 640mb ram and 250Gb hard drive.

What am I doing wrong?
