	What does Activity Viewer say when she tries to download mail?

	To see Activity Viewer in operation, you have to select it from the  
Window menu (it will float in a small window in front of the regular  
Mail window) then use the keyboard to ask Mail to get new mail (⇧  
⌘, n).
