Assuming you have Mac OS X 10.4.x...

Not sure if this will get it down to 1mb, but you can try this:
1. Open the PDF with Preview. DO NOT use Acrobat for this.
2. Select "Print" from the File menu.
3. Don't print it, but click on the "PDF" button on the bottom left corner of the Print dialog. Select "Compress PDF". It'll ask you for a file name. Save the file and see how much smaller it is.
