Correct about Target Mode, but not so much about camcorders anymore.

Most camcorders made in the last few years (which offer substantially  
improved optics, even the non-HD ones) now either burn their own media  
internally (the hated mini-DVD or an internal HD or flash card) and/or  
offer USB2 connectivity.

If you're still using a camcorder that relies on FW to transfer video,  
you should really look at upgrading your camera to a newer model; the  
quality of the video is substantially better, and for better or worse  
USB2 is ubiquitous on this now. War's over, and Firewire 400 lost. :(

(that's NOT to say that Firewire as a concept is dead; keep your eyes  
open over the next year or so -- but it IS to say that FW is now a  
"pros-only" technology.)
