Hi Delbert,

Wow, I can't believe you have a funky .mil email address and you obviously like UNIX but you haven't read this book.

Cliff Stoll is a sysadmin at Berkely who tracked down a German cracker working for the KGB. The "Cuckoos Egg" is a book he wrote about the case. It's a great story (and all true). One of the clues that leads to the guy is that he keeps using ps -ef on BSD based systems, this makes Stoll believe the intruder is on the east coast of the US (where thanks to AT&T, Sys V machines were at the time predominant). I have a spare copy but I think thats a bit too far to send. It's worth checking out, a couple of people I've spoken to here read it at university as part of their network security classes.
