Sorry, I didn't read it that way.

The naming conventions for some devices change from one Unix to the next.  But, then again, they will change from one version to the next to not even that is a constant.

But John's question was so general, I assumed he wanted to tutorial on what-the-heck is in the /dev directory.  And, in general, it's the same for every flavor of Unix.  Even most of the pseudo-device names are the same.
