[X-Unix] Where to put my personal Perl Modules?

My previous post was a little confusing.  To clarify...

In order to for the module to be found by the perl compiler on my Mac, I had
to modify my environment:

export PERL5LIB=/sw/lib/perl5:$HOME/bin

But when I uploaded my script and module to DreamHost, I did not have to do
this; it "just worked".
