According to my trials you only need to plug a memory stick and do for
example a ls(1). That's enough to get the dot files in the root folder
like .fsevents and friends. If you in addition you do a cp(1) you get
the corresponding AppleDouble.

If you plug and unmount you don't get the root files, looks like you
need at least to access the device somehow.
